Introducing EpidymeEpidyme is a pharmaceutical research company developing commercial products in the field of immuno-therapy.Immune processes are vital as a defence against the disease organisms with which we are constantly confronted in our environment. However, the immune system can itself be responsible for diseases, either where it overreacts to a harmless environmental stimulus (for example hay fever) or where it mistakenly attacks natural components of the body (autoimmune disease). Epidyme's approach is based on a method of modulating the response of the immune system to specific antigens. We believe that this can target the specific immune response implicated in a disease process. The company is concentrating its efforts on autoimmune diseases. Our lead development prospect is a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, which is estimated to affect 20 million people worldwide and accounted for over $7bn of pharmaceutical industry sales in 2004.
